It’s the holidays! The time of year for families to gather together to celebrate traditions, share old memories, and make new ones. This year, as you surround yourself with family and friends, both two-legged and four-legged alike, remember there are millions of dogs in shelters, patiently waiting for a family of their own.
For some, this won’t be their first, second, or even their third Christmas without a family of their own.
It’s our Christmas wish that every dog in rescue would find a home for the holidays, so we’ve selected 12 special dogs from around the country that have been overlooked time and time again. Some are senior dogs, some have special needs, and some are passed over for reasons we simply can’t understand – but, they all deserve to spend the holidays with a family of their own.
We’re calling this the 12 Dogs of Christmas! The Dogington Post along with our friends at Halo® Purely for Pets® have joined forces to introduce you to 12 needy dogs in hopes that they’ll finally get noticed…and maybe get a home for the holidays!
Name of Rescue Organization: Mastiffs To Mutts
Age: 5.5 years
How long at shelter/rescue: Nicholas has been in foster care for a full year.
Type/Size/Sex: American Bulldog, 65-pounds, Male
Nicholas’ Story: Nicholas was found starved almost to death and chained outside in the middle of winter. He was completely emaciated and had two torn ACLs. He has since had a double ACL repair, tons of groceries, and is ready for his forever home!
Likes: Nicholas loves short walks, swimming, hanging out in his baby pool, playing outside, sunbathing, ALL TOYS, submissive dogs, and all people.
Dislikes: Reactive dogs and cats, the smell of nail polish.
And, he has an adorable underbite and a FABULOUS smile! Watch:
Special Considerations: Nick is an active dog who requires a fenced in yard. He loves to chase the neighbor’s outdoor cat as well as the squirrels and birds. He LOVES to play but due to his size would not do well with small children as he can be rough when he plays. He loves other dogs but requires a patient canine companion who understands that Nick can be possessive of his prized possessions at times due to his past trauma. He would also benefit from Adaquan shots to help with any arthritis from his previously torn ACLs. Nick currently lives with a Yorkie mix, English Mastiff, and Saint Bernard/Great Dane puppy. He also lives with a Chinchilla and has been able to learn to leave him alone.
With a proper introduction and the right companion, Nicholas absolutely adores his dog pals, too!
Nick’s Perfect Family: Nick is very attached to his people and loves nothing more than to sleep UNDER the covers as close as he can to you. He needs a family who is willing to give him the attention he deserves and spoil him with daily kisses. He is an overall low maintenance dog who is content staring out the window or laying at your feet. He must have a fenced in yard and his human siblings should be at least six years old. Home ownership is also required. All other pets in the home must be on flea/heartworm preventatives, up to date on shots, and spayed/neutered.
Mastiffs to Mutts adopts out to families in Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, parts of North Carolina and a few areas of New York. Applicants must be approved and willing to travel to meet Nicholas. He is currently being fostered in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Nicholas will soon face another Christmas without a family all his own.
