It’s the holidays! The time of year for families to gather together to celebrate traditions, share old memories, and make new ones. This year, as you surround yourself with family and friends, both two-legged and four-legged alike, remember there are millions of dogs in shelters, patiently waiting for a family of their own. For some, this won’t be their first, second, or even their EIGHTH Christmas without a family of their own.
It’s our Christmas wish that every dog in rescue would find a home for the holidays, so we’ve selected 12 special dogs from around the country that have been overlooked time and time again. Some are senior dogs, some have special needs, and some are passed over for reasons we simply can’t understand – but, they all deserve to spend the holidays with a family of their own.
We’re calling this the 12 Dogs of Christmas! The Dogington Post along with our friends at Halo® Purely for Pets® have joined forces to introduce you to 12 needy dogs in hopes that they’ll finally get noticed…and maybe get a home for the holidays!
Name of Rescue Organization: All About Animals Rescue (Macon, GA)
Age: 8 years
How long at shelter/rescue: Rosie has been looking for a family for over 7 years!
Type/Size/Sex: Shephard Mix, Medium/Large, Spayed Female.
Rosie’s Story: Sweet, smiling Rosie will wiggle her whole body to meet you. She can be a little shy at first, but then it’s instant love. This girl has such a beautiful face that draws you in!
In 2010, the director of All About Animals Rescue received a phone call begging her to take in a couple of dogs she saw at our local animal control in the back of a truck. One of them happened to be Rosie. Of course, our director couldn’t refuse. Initially, Rosie was bounced around a couple temporary foster homes but ended up staying at the rescue. She has been with us ever since.
This lovely girl is our longest resident at the shelter – she’s been with us about 7 years! Why, do you ask? Because Rosie is shy and it takes her a little while to come out of her shell, so she often gets overlooked. All of the volunteers at AAAR know Rosie for the playful girl she is, but most people tend to walk past her. Rosie is a wonderful dog – she gets along well with all people as well as dogs. She’s so much fun to be around and doesn’t constantly demand attention. She’ll be the perfect companion for someone willing to get to know her.
Likes: Lounging, Short Walks, Ear Scratches, Taking Pictures, Car Rides, Splashing in Kiddie Pools, Dogs!
Dislikes: People Invading her Personal Bubble, Being Told She Can’t do Something
Special Considerations: Rosie absolutely loves other dogs, big and small! She would require a fenced yard.
Rosie’s Perfect Family: Rosie’s ideal home would have no children or constant activity with new people. She’d prefer a quiet home with her owner(s) and one or two fursiblings. She loves to lay on couches and beds to lounge and snuggle so she definitely needs a home that will let her on the furniture.
Rosie’s adoption fee has been waived to help find her the perfect home. AAAR would like to do a home visit if her adoptive family is near enough, but if not, we will figure something out! After almost 8 years in rescue, Rosie is more than ready for her perfect family and AAAR understands that family may need to travel to find her.
Rosie will soon face another Christmas without a family all her own.
