Meet the 7th of our ’12 Dogs of Christmas,’ Trey! This loving and energetic boy has been looking for a forever family for two years. Could he find his perfect home with you?
It’s the holidays! The time of year for families to gather together to celebrate traditions, share old memories, and make new ones. This year, as you surround yourself with family and friends, both two-legged and four-legged alike, remember there are millions of dogs in shelters, patiently waiting for a family of their own. For some, this won’t be their first, second, or even their EIGHTH Christmas without a family of their own.
It’s our Christmas wish that every dog in rescue would find a home for the holidays, so we’ve selected 12 special dogs from around the country that have been overlooked time and time again. Some are senior dogs, some have special needs, and some are passed over for reasons we simply can’t understand – but, they all deserve to spend the holidays with a family of their own.
We’re calling this the 12 Dogs of Christmas! The Dogington Post along with our friends at Halo® Purely for Pets® have joined forces to introduce you to 12 needy dogs in hopes that they’ll finally get noticed…and maybe get a home for the holidays!
Name of Rescue Organization: Chatham Kent Animal Rescue (CK Animal Rescue) Ontario, Canada
How long at shelter/rescue: 2 years
Type/Size/Sex: Labrador Mix, 60-pounds, Male
Trey and his brother, Gus are 2 very special boys who have been with CK Animal Rescue since they were about a year old. They moved to the foster program 2 years ago but have never had the opportunity to live in a true home with a family. Trey and Gus were originally posted as a bonded pair but they are now ready to spread their wings as individuals. Time to explore all that life has to offer!
Trey loves to explore so his nose is to the ground every chance he gets! He loves attention and is a happy boy whose tail never stops wagging.
Trey will need further training to learn how to be a respectful family member. To avoid chewing, only durable toys have been made available since flimsy stuffies are easily destroyed.
He is routine oriented and does very well in his current situation but we want him to enjoy more time interacting with a family. If you love Labs, are willing to provide lots of love, patience and further training and ultimately give Trey a great home, we want to hear from you!!
Likes: Trey loves to run and explore, he craves attention
Dislikes: Younger kids, cats.
Special Considerations: Trey is currently being fostered with his brother Gus. But, while they live in the same area, they can be independent of each other. Trey loves to go for his morning run, explore the huge fenced yard area….he does have a prey drive when he sees squirrels running up the trees. He is a very loving boy and enjoys attention.
Trey was born and raised for the first year of his life on a small hobby farm which was also a rescue for many other animals. He has not had the opportunity to live in a home other than when he was a puppy. He needs a secure fenced yard and someone who is home part time who can spend lots of time with him to teach him about new situations. He is very loyal and just needs a chance.
Trey’s Perfect Family: Ideally, Trey’s future family will live in the Chatham Kent area where they can visit him a few times before he’s moved to his forever home. The rescue will consider doing a foster-to-adopt for this sweet guy. Because he has never lived in a home environment, he tends to chew on dog beds and toys with stuffing. He is afraid to ride in a vehicle so some time and patience to teach him it’s ok is needed. This sweet, loving boy simply never learned what it meant to just be a dog – can you teach him how wonderful it could be?
Trey will soon face another Christmas without a family all his own.
Does Trey seem like the perfect fit for your family? Here’s how to begin the adoption process:
Anyone wishing to adopt Trey should first visit CK Animal Rescue’s website and review their Adoption FAQs. Then, fill out an adoption application for Trey. Or, call 519-354-5000 for more information and to begin the process of adoption.
CK Animal Rescue is a non profit organization based out of Chatham Ontario. We take local surrenders and shelter dogs that are scheduled to be euthanized. Place dogs and cats in approved foster homes until a loving adoptive home can be found. Provide permanent foster homes for dogs that are deemed unadoptable due to abuse, disability or advanced age. Provide short term care for dogs and cats through our Purple Leash Program for owners who are being hospitalized or fleeing domestic abuse.
Will Trey finally find his forever with you?
