Asian Dog Meat Trade: An Interview with Marc Ching of the Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation

Marc Ching founded the Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation in Sherman Oaks, California to help rehabilitate, foster, and find forever homes for local abandoned, abused, and traumatized dogs. Like most everyone, when he heard about the Yulin Dog Meat Festival that happens every June in Yulin, China, he couldn’t believe it was actually a thing. As he dug deeper, he learned that the severe abuse involved is based on a cultural belief that the adrenaline makes the meat more tender and healthy. Unable to understand how a society could condone such barbaric cruelty to dogs and cats based on an old cultural belief, Marc traveled to China to see for it himself and to try to rescue dogs from the slaughter. He almost lost his life in the process.

But what started as a rescue mission with his first trip, turned into a worldwide movement on his second trip – forcing him to question everything he believed about humanity and pushing him to the brink of his very own sanity. In an effort to make it stop – to get an audience with the governments who have that power but refuse to acknowledge the realities – he has witnessed and documented the horrors that happen daily inside the slaughterhouses. And his life will never be the same again.

This is his story. We hope you find it as inspiring as it is infuriating.

Given the topic, it can be difficult to watch in a few parts. Which is why we have included annotations to give you warning when difficult imagery is about to appear and for how long it will be on the screen. The choice to leave them on or turn them off is up to you.

Thank you so much for watching. And if it resonates with you, please share this video with anyone who might be interested.

I'm in total agreement with Ms. Reek, boycott travel to these countries! To paraphrase Gandhi, a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated. Marc Ching is truly a hero!

I read recently that the Petition signed by millions of us caused this year’s atrocities to.be cancelled. If the Government allows this horror to go on the world MUST boycott travel there. If the reality of their lack of banning such murderous actions of innocent animals doesnt stop it, THE WORLD MUST HIT THEM IN THE POCKETBOOK!! I wish each and every monster that takes part be put in the most inhumane prison where they are tortured daily for life.
