Staff at the Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem, Massachusetts found a dog tied to a bench outside their building on Tuesday morning.

The dog is said to have been tied outside for about 45-minutes, in 7-degree subfreezing weather, until she was discovered and brought inside, wrapped in blankets, and given a warm meal.

Now, shelter officials are hoping the public can help identify the person responsible.

Surveillance cameras recorded a woman peering into the building’s front door, the dog on a leash by her side, and captured images of her SUV as it drove away after tying the dog to a bench outside.

If caught, the woman could face cruelty or abandonment charges.

The dog is expected to be ok and will be kept warm inside the shelter until she is ready to be adopted into a loving home.

Anyone with information about the dog, the woman seen in the photographs, or the driver of the SUV are urged to contact Northeast Animal Shelter at (978) 745-9888.
