When a family in Utah made the tough decision to surrender their dog, Rhino Lightning, to a local shelter, a young child made sure his best friend’s new home was the best possible fit. The child sent along a spiral notebook full of recommendations for his dog’s new family, including details of the dog’s likes and dislikes, his behavior, and his most favorite things.

As reported by Today, the letter says the animal’s “cheeks make a lot of slobber.” He is “a good dog and he loves cuddles,” and is a “very amazing puppy.” Rhino “hates snow & swimming,” but he “loves to run around” and to sleep under the blankets.

The Humane Society of Utah explained on Facebook that although the decision was heartbreaking for the family, they did what was in the best interest of the dog, a 3-year old Boxer-mix that, although he’s super friendly, doesn’t know his own size when playing with the family’s youngest kids.

As of Monday, February 20, Rhino Lightning is still available for adoption. He enjoys the company of other mellow dogs and would do best in a home with older kids (above age 8). You can find out more about Rhino right here.

I hope he finds his fur ever home soon.

  2. The video of Rhino is so cute. Even though Rhino is a friendly dog, the family has made the right decision for the fear that he might hurt the youngest kids, even it's not his intention. Btw hope Rhino will have a new family that treasure him the way his previous owners do.
