Police in South Florida are searching for a woman who responded to a Craigslist ad, posed as a trustworthy dogsitter, and then disappeared with her client’s dog while the family went on vacation.

When Fluffy’s owners decided to vacation outside of the country, they turned to the popular classified ads site, Craigslist, to find a sitter for their dog, a 4-year old Shih Tzu/Maltese. A woman claiming to be Keyana Morales responded to the ad.

Fluffy’s owner met with “Morales” multiple times at a South Florida park before deciding to leave the dog in her care. Morales stayed in constant contact with Fluffy’s family during their vacation, even texting pictures of the happy dog.

However, when the family returned on August 4, Morales stopped answering texts and phone calls. When Fluffy’s family went to the address Morales had given them, the home was vacant.

According to Local 10 News, Police have since discovered Morales’ true identity as 23-year old Shamari Patrick. They believe she is currently living out of her car, a burgundy Mercury Grand Marquis with large rims. She and Fluffy could be anywhere at this time.

Though Fluffy is microchipped, the information was not updated when the owner last moved from Georgia. (Always keep your microchip information current!)

Anyone with information about Patrick or Fluffy is asked to call police at 561-742-6135 or Palm Beach County Crime Stoppers at 800-458-TIPS.

UPDATE! At about 2:00am today, Shamari Patrick, the woman posing as a dogsitter, was arrested and is facing charges of grand theft. About three weeks ago, Patrick sold Fluffy to a Wellington, Florida woman at a Boynton Beach motel parking lot. After her arrest, police recovered Fluffy and returned him to his very, very happy owner.

Here’s the happy reunion on video – love a happy ending!
