It’s the holidays! The time of year for families to gather together to celebrate traditions, share old memories, and make new ones. This year, as you surround yourself with family and friends, both two-legged and four-legged alike, remember there are millions of dogs in shelters, patiently waiting for a family of their own. For some, this won’t be their first, second, or even their EIGHTH Christmas without a family of their own.

It’s our Christmas wish that every dog in rescue would find a home for the holidays, so we’ve selected 12 special dogs from around the country that have been overlooked time and time again. Some are senior dogs, some have special needs, and some are passed over for reasons we simply can’t understand – but, they all deserve to spend the holidays with a family of their own.

We’re calling this the 12 Dogs of Christmas! The Dogington Post along with our friends at Halo® Purely for Pets® have joined forces to introduce you to 12 needy dogs in hopes that they’ll finally get noticed…and maybe get a home for the holidays!

Meet DayZ!

Name of Rescue Organization: Angels Among Us Pet Rescue

How long at shelter/rescue: Over 3 years

Type/Size/Sex: Boxer/Terrier Mix, 55-pounds, Female

DayZ’s Story:

12 dogs of christmasThis is sweet DayZ. She’s such a friendly, happy playful girl. She was pregnant when rescued and all of her babies found loving forever homes. Now DayZ’s wants her forever home.

DayZ is a 5-year old, 55-pound sweetheart that loves to go for walks, especially at the lake where she can play in the water. DayZ would love to have a fenced yard where she can run and chase tennis balls to drain off her energy and be with you. She also enjoys car rides.

DayZ is selective of her dog friends as she relates better to people. She is fine on-leash and ignores other dogs, but she doesn’t like dogs who “get in her face.” So, the best home for DayZ is one with no other pets. Because she can can be energetic…she is best in a home with older children–although she loves the little ones. But even though DayZ can be energetic, she can also be very calm and chill beside you. DayZ is also crate and house trained.

Please consider making this sweet girl part of your family. She’s waiting for you!!

Likes: Car rides, swimming in the lake, squeaky toys, going for a walk or just going anywhere. She loves to go on any adventure.

Dislikes: Sharing her family with another dog or cat. She prefers to be the only child!

12 dogs of christmasSpecial Considerations: DayZ is not reactive to other dogs on walks but does not play well with other dogs or cats and should be in an only pet home. She has not been around small children but due to her size and energy level, she would probably do best with children 8 and older.

DayZ’s Perfect Family:
DayZ is a sweet funny girl who is crate trained, housebroken, loves to be with her people and would make a great jogging or hiking buddy. She’s a little timid at first with new people, but when she gets to know you, will love you. She is a great companion dog.

DayZ loves being with her people so having a family member home the majority of the day would make her very happy but is not required.

DayZ will soon face another Christmas without a family all her own.

Does DayZ seem like the perfect fit for your family? Here’s how to begin the adoption process:

12 dogs of christmasAnyone that is interested in adopting DayZ can fill out an adoption application with Angels Among Us Pet Rescue. Or, for additional questions about DayZ or the adoption process, email [email protected]

Angels Among Us Pet Rescue will consider dog adoption applications from outside the state of Georgia if the dog is older than 4 months of age and heartworm negative. It is Angels Among Us policy to perform home checks prior to adoption finalization. An adopter may either contact a local rescue organization to perform home check or make arrangements with the foster to have a virtual home check performed.

Will DayZ finally find her forever with you?
