Meet the 6th of our ’12 Dogs of Christmas,’ Ranger! This playful, loving senior boy has been looking for a forever family for 3 and a half years! What if YOU’RE the person he’s been waiting for?
It’s the holidays! The time of year for families to gather together to celebrate traditions, share old memories, and make new ones. This year, as you surround yourself with family and friends, both two-legged and four-legged alike, remember there are millions of dogs in shelters, patiently waiting for a family of their own. For some, this won’t be their first, second, or even their EIGHTH Christmas without a family of their own.
It’s our Christmas wish that every dog in rescue would find a home for the holidays, so we’ve selected 12 special dogs from around the country that have been overlooked time and time again. Some are senior dogs, some have special needs, and some are passed over for reasons we simply can’t understand – but, they all deserve to spend the holidays with a family of their own.
We’re calling this the 12 Dogs of Christmas! The Dogington Post along with our friends at Halo® Purely for Pets® have joined forces to introduce you to 12 needy dogs in hopes that they’ll finally get noticed…and maybe get a home for the holidays!
Name of Rescue Organization: Animal Ark (Minnesota)
How long at shelter/rescue: Ranger has been looking for his family for 3-and-a-half years!
Type/Size/Sex: Boxer Mix, Large, Male
Ranger was a stray that ended up at a vet clinic near Animal Ark. After his stray hold was up he was transferred to the shelter. We didn’t know anything about him other than what we have observed in shelter here. There was a lot of trial and error to figure out what he was comfortable with and what he wasn’t. He has really calmed down with us and his behavior has changed more and more for the better as he is getting older.
Hi there! I’m Ranger and I’d like to be your new exploring buddy! I’m a very distinguished looking, 8 year old Boxer mix. The folks here call me their big, beautiful, brindle boy and say I’ve got a playful and loving heart. Although I can be selective when it comes to other pooches and kitties, an introduction would be needed make sure it’s a good fit. I would also do well in a home with older kids who can play an active role in my training and play times!
I am the master of knocking treats out of my wobbler kong and loooove my tennis balls. The volunteers say I’m one of their favorites to walk, since I try to mind my leash manners and am a good listener when I get distracted or anxious. I can get startled by cars or motorcycles on my walks, but my training helps me to relax quicker. I’ve also had some sleepovers in a home environment, where I am very respectful and don’t jump up on furniture unless invited. My friends at the shelter keep telling me they don’t know why I’m still here…I’ve been waiting for my person for more than three years. Is it you? I’m hoping that it’s finally my turn. Please come visit me today!
Likes: Ranger loves to play fetch with the tennis ball. He enjoys treat games, especially the Kong Wobbler. He LOVES attention and would be happy to go on a walk then come home and snuggle on the couch. He is obsessed with the volunteers that work with him, he get so excited when they come he even knows some of their cars!
Dislikes: Younger kids. Dogs. Cats.
Special Considerations: Ranger really needs to be the only animal in the home. He is not great with cats and pretty dog selective so we believe that he would do best getting all of the attention. He doesn’t do well with younger kids but older respectful ones he should do well with. He is a senior so he needs a calmer, not super high energy home.
Ranger’s Perfect Family: Ranger’s perfect family would be a calm home, where he gets all the attention. No other animals so he is the king of the household. He needs a family that can take him on walks and play fetch with him, but knows his limits. He is a lover of attention so a house that is willing to let him come up and snuggle on the couch and in the bed and just veg out. If he could be in a home with someone who is home all day would be wonderful but is not a necessity. He has been in a shelter for quite some time and really needs someone who is patient and understands that it takes a little bit to transition from shelter environment to a home environment.
Ranger will soon face another Christmas without a family all his own.
Does Ranger seem like the perfect fit for your family? Here’s how to begin the adoption process:
Anyone wishing to adopt Ranger should visit the shelter to meet him and fill out an application.
Or, call 651-772-8983 or send an email to [email protected] with any questions.
Animal Ark does perform home visits for all of their dogs, so adopters do need to live within an hour of the shelter. His adoption fee is $350 and that includes training. He would be a good candidate for a foster to adopt as well.
Will Ranger finally find his forever with you?
