They say that when you rescue a dog, the dog rescues you. That couldn’t be more true for New Jersey resident, Deborah Epstein, whose 6-pound Yorkshire Terrier, Joe, saved her from a hungry bear!
Last week, Deborah and her little Yorkie, Joe, were relaxing on the front porch of her Ringwood, New Jersey home when the phone rang. Deborah stepped inside to answer it, leaving the front door open. That’s when little Joe started barking like crazy.
Apparently, a nearby bear took the open door as an opportunity to come inside for a treat – but Joe was having none of it.
Epstein told New York’s local CBS News Channel 2, “Basically, the bear was heading for his food dish bowl, and you don’t touch Joe’s food dish bowl.”
Apparently nothing, not even a 100-lb bear, comes between Joe and his food dish! Joe started attacking the bear, who quickly turned around and left the house.
“I saved him from the pound, and he saved me from a bear,” Epstein proclaimed. “We’re even.”
She added that she’ll be certain to keep the door closed from now on, as bear sightings are common in her neighborhood.
