A California homeowner got shocked after finding her dog ‘playing’ with a mountain lion in their backyard on Friday, August 11.

Sandy Ali told KCRA that she was hosting a bible study in their Morada home when one of her friends pointed out that her “dogs” were playing in the backyard.

“My friend looked out and said, ‘Oh your dogs are playing’ and I said, ‘I only have one dog,’” Ali recounted.

The pooch’s supposed furry friend wasn’t what it seemed to be. After going outside to investigate further, Ali found that her dog’s playmate was not another dog, but a mountain lion.

In a home security footage shared with KCRA, you can see Ali’s dog chasing after the lion in the yard, before the feline jumps into a tree, escaping.

According to KCRA, Ali shared that she has lived in the area for a long time but has never seen a mountain near her home.

“It’s really beautiful,” she described the lion. “It just, in one leap, was up in the tree so quickly.”

After watching the lion leaping into a tree, Ali called 911. Multiple agencies responded to her home to try and safely trap the large feline.

Ali also revealed that authorities tried to tranquilize the wild animal, but all efforts were unsuccessful and it got away.

The San Joaquin County Sherrif’s Office revealed, “the mountain lion is not aggressive and there is no danger at this time.”

The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office also shared in another tweet that they will continue their efforts to secure the animal.

Furthermore, they asked people who live in the area to stay vigilant and keep their pets indoors.
