I haven’t seen the video but judging from the post it must have been horrendous. That he got beaten up is not even close to the pain and suffering he had caused to an innocent being! He should be behind bars for a very long time too or in an asylum for life! An individual capable of such cruelty is a menace to society!

Well the dog abuser got what he deserved in my opinion. But I think it wrong that punishment has to be meted out by another individual rather than the state; if the law against animal abuse was as strong as it should be then he would have been dealt with in court and the man who felt so outraged as to punish him wouldn’t be in danger of arrest or assault.

I teach self defence for my living. Sometimes fighting back is to save your life. Sometimes, it’s to make a stand. And sometimes it’s to educate. I believe animal-harmer just got educated. And I am cool with that.

Four question for you… 1. What good does it do to hit the abuser? 2. Will he change? 3. Will the revenge rehabilitate him? 4. Would non-judgemental communication have been more effective in getting to the root of the abusers anger to help him see the wrong in it? Even if your answer was yes to the first three; then you couldn’t deny him the opportunity to have the fourth.

I’m not an advocate of mindless violence but when a bully takes his anger out on a terrified little animal then I’m delighted that someone cared enough to go and send out the message that it won’t be tolerated. I’m an avid supporter of animal rights and legislation to protect all sentient species. I’m also a lifelong vegan *because* I find the suffering sentient beings suffer due to humans’ choices irreconcilable with our general moral reasoning about the infliction and suffering of pain when these aren’t absolutely necessary for survival. But beating someone as an emotional response to something he did, as a punishment for his physically violent emotional response to … something someone else did … is illogical. And it’s frightening that reasonably intelligent citizens feel morally justified in advocating this.

There is never an excuse to justify violence against another living creature. If you condon the revenge beating you are saying sometimes abuse is justified. Accordingly, you are saying that your reasons are justified but the abusers reasons were not. This is wrong. No one should ever abuse anything. By doing so you become the abuser. In the end, you don’t really feel better and you didn’t stop the abuse.
