The 12 Dogs of Christmas: Meet Roger, a Dog-Friendly Guy with a Zest for Life!

It’s the holidays! The time of year for families to gather together to celebrate traditions, share old memories, and make new ones. This year, as you surround yourself with family and friends, both two-legged and four-legged alike, remember there are millions of dogs in shelters, patiently waiting for a family of their own.

For some, this won’t be their first, second, or even their third Christmas behind bars.

It’s our Christmas wish that every dog in rescue would find a home for the holidays, so we’ve selected 12 special dogs from around the country that have been overlooked time and time again. Some are senior dogs, some have special needs, and some are passed over for reasons we simply can’t understand – but, they all deserve to spend the holidays with a family of their own.

We’re calling this the 12 Dogs of Christmas. The Dogington Post along with our friends at Wellness Natural Pet Food have joined forces to introduce you to 12 needy dogs in hopes that they’ll finally get noticed…and maybe get a home for the holidays!

Meet Roger!

Looking for a dog who:
1. Loves other dogs and can match any playstyle?
2. Can be affectionate, cuddle, and give kisses?
3. Self-entertain with toys?
4. Is non-destructive?
5.Reportedly house trained in the home?
6. Walks nicely on a leash?
7. Knows basic cues and some tricks?
8. Food motivated and takes treats gently?
9. Down for hikes, runs, and agility, but can also chill out and relax?

ROGER THAT! We have a dog who fits the bill: Roger!

Roger may not be perfect for small children or those who are unsteady on their feet because he often likes to jump up to say hello – but he’s learning! He knows sit and tries sooooooo hard to be good.

One of our behavior specialists, Janelle, says “If I could take home a third dog – Roger would be mine.

Dog’s Name: Roger

Name of Shelter: Best Friends Animal Society – Los Angeles

Age: 2 year old

How long at shelter/rescue: Over 1 year

Type/Size/Sex: Shepherd Mix, Large, Male

Likes: Playing with other dogs, splashing in kiddie pools and hiking with his favorite people.

Dislikes: Not having a home and family of his own in time for the holidays.

Roger’s Story: Like all pets at Best Friends in L.A., Roger was pulled from a local municipal shelter of Los Angeles Animal Services.

Describe the perfect family or home for this dog: Roger would be a wonderful companion to anyone who is looking to share their love with a deserving shelter pet. Bonus if you have a yard or a local dog park he could frequent. He would make a great 2nd or 3rd dog to any home that already has other dogs that share his same zest for life!

The Wellness Foundation was started to make the world a better place for all pets.

A big part of that involves a partnership with Best Friends Animal Society, a leading animal welfare organization dedicated to ending the killing of dogs and cats in America’s shelters.

As the Official Pet Food Partner of Best Friends, Wellness is proud to provide natural pet food for the animals they rescue, so they have access to the healthiest nutrition possible.

We are also committed to helping the pets at Best Friends find forever homes. And when they do, we want their first meal to be from us, so we send their new families home with free Wellness pet food. Because pets deserve nothing less than the most nutrient-dense goodness in every bowl, starting with the first one.

Plus, if you adopt one of our “12 Dogs of Christmas,” they’ll send a PAWsome gift basket filled with Wellness Natural food and treats for your newest furry family member, too!
