Description

The Yorkshire Terrier, also called as Yorkie, is a very popular breed of dog that belongs to the Toy dog group. Yorkies originated in Great Britain, and were initially developed to catch rats around clothing mills. Their very small size paired with their winsome expression now illustrates the breed group’s function for companionship and embodiment of sheer delight. They normally come in blue and tan colors.

Having them on leash when going outdoors is highly recommended for male Yorkies can become very territorial at times.

Grooming

The silky and very lustrous coat of the members of Yorkie breed generally requires day-to-day grooming. Although they tend to shed very lightly, their hair underneath has to be trimmed regularly. For easier care, it is advisable that owners trim their fur short.

Health Concerns

There are quite a few dog health issues related to Yorkshire Terriers. Some of these health problems include luxating patella, cataract, liver troubles, allergies, dental concerns, and low blood sugar. With proper diet and exercise, Yorkies, nevertheless, are expected to live for as long as 12 to 15 years.

Best Environment

Members of the Yorkshire Terrier breed have been found out to thrive very well in chilly weather conditions. However, they still need to be covered up when taken for a walk during the cold. They are also observed to be most happy when they get to cuddle up to their owners or fooling around the garden. They like playing tug of war with people close to them or chasing their own shadows. Aside from that, Yorkies love to be the center of attention. They are easy to care for as they only need a minimal amount of exercise.
