Nobody can resist dogs, not even burglary suspects! A bike thief in San Diego, California proved this true as a video of him pausing to steal a bike to pet a Golden Retriever goes viral.

The San Diego Police Department (SDPD) posted a video of the incident on August 3, Thursday. In the caption, the SDPD revealed that the incident happened on July 15, at about 10:40 PM.

The police department also revealed that the suspect is still at large, almost a month after the incident. And that the unknown man was able to successfully steal a “2019 black Electra 3-speed bicycle valued at approximately $1,300”.

In the video, you can see the man wheeling the bike off from the garage when a Golden Retriever came out of the door to chase him.

But in an unexpected turn of events, instead of stopping the man from stealing the bike, the Goldie asked for some pets and belly rubs, unknowingly becoming an accomplice to a $1300 bike theft.

When the man realized the dog was friendly, he parked the bike momentarily to give the dog some pets and belly rubs.

The man can be heard saying, “Alright, because you’re so cool. Come here. Because you’re the coolest dog I’ve ever known. I love you, too.”

The friendly pup then rolls onto its back to ask for some belly rubs. And in exchange for some belly rubs, the affectionate pooch even gave the thief a few kisses on the cheeks.

“Your dad shouldn’t leave your garage open,” the man continued talking to the dog. “Dad, where are you?!”

The video has since gone viral and has prompted laughter from many users online. One user wrote, “This [is] the most polite burglar I’ve ever seen…not only will he steal, but he rubs and plays with your fur babies before he makes his exit.”

But a lot of users can’t stop talking about the four-legged accomplice and have pointed out how it was such a “Golden Retriever thing” to be a little too friendly and ask for belly rubs from literally anyone.

Some of the comments say, “[It’s] always the golden retrievers”, “he traded the $1000 e-bike for belly rubs”, “dog is thinking, ‘if not friend, why friend-shaped'”, and “I think somebody’s getting fire on guard duties.”

So, if you’re thinking of getting a Golden Retriever to be a guard dog, then you might want to reconsider that idea.
