If your dog has just recently peed on the mattress and it’s still wet, blot up as much of the moisture as you possibly can. Use paper towels or a sponge. Place paper towels (or sponge) over the wet area. And then apply pressure to soak up as much of the moisture that you can.

If you own a wet/dry vacuum cleaner, use it on the area for better results. And if the urine has dried, proceed to step two.

Step 2: Use a vinegar and water solution

In a jug or any container, mix a solution of 50% vinegar and 50% water. Pour about 50 mLs (or more, if the affected area is large). Then once again, blot using paper towels or use your wet/dry vacuum to remove the excess moisture.

Step 3: Use baking soda

Mix together a quarter of a cup of hydrogen peroxide (3% strength) and a teaspoon of dishwashing detergent. Pour the mixture over the baking soda. And then work it into the baking soda using your fingers or with a scrubbing brush.

Alternatively, you can put the solution in a spray bottle and spray it on your mattress.

Step 5: Wait for the solution to work its magic

Allow fifteen minutes for the solution to work and then begin blotting again with paper towels or use wet/dry vacuum. You will then have to wait for the mattress to dry completely.

When the mattress is thoroughly dry, vacuum off excess powder. Use a hard bristled brush to loosen up the baking soda if necessary.

Other tips on how to clean dog urine from mattress

Be cautious and use only 3% hydrogen peroxide. If you don’t have hydrogen peroxide, you can substitute it with a spray laundry stain remover.

Check the laundry spray cleaner bottle. If it says ‘Oxy’ anywhere on the label, then it probably contains hydrogen peroxide.

To deter your dog from urinating on the bed, try to purchase a plastic tarp and drape it over the bed. Your dog will not like the feel of it.

And hopefully, it will discourage your pet from peeing on your mattress. If it doesn’t discourage, then at least it saves your bed from dog urine!
