Onlookers were horrified to see a tiny 5 pound Yorkshire Terrier tethered to the bumper of a Ford Expedition being literally dragged down the street in Marble Falls, Texas, at 10 mph.
Apparently the driver of the SUV, Maricela Sanchez, thought tying her little Yorkie, Mimi to the bumper to walk her was a good idea.
But, poor Mimi couldn’t keep up the pace.
She had scratches on the bottom of her jaw, she lost toenails and suffered severe road rash. Though it’s not known how long the poor dog was dragged down the street, by the time she was stopped the pads of her tiny feet were completely gone.
Marble Falls Police Captain Glenn Hanson said, “For a dog that size, behind an Expedition going ten miles an hour, there’s no way any reasonable person would look at that and say that would be okay to walk the dog that way.”
The sweet little dog is recovering, but is still undergoing treatment for her wounds. She is staying with a foster family while Maricela Sanchez will meet with a judge to determine if she will resume ownership of her dog.

Perhaps animal lovers shouldn’t promote cuelty to humans. Two wrongs don’t make one right. There are laws and punishments available that don’t involve sadistic torture. says:To pass any class in school, we take tests to prove we have learned what was being taught. We take a driver’s test to ge a driver’s license. Why is it not logical to expect people who want to own a dog or cat to first learn what the hell companion animal ownership entails, what is mandatory, what is abuse or neglect, what medical responsibilities there are, how to feed the pet adequately, how much exercise is needed, how to train a dog without negative force, and how much they can expect to pay annually for owning a pet. They shoulod be required to take a comprehensive course and pass a test, then get a certificate they can use to become dog or cat owners. Those of us who have worked long and hard with loving companions in obedience, tracking, agility and animal therapy are not the same kind of people as those who get a dog and tie it on a chain 24/7 as far away from the house as possible, never take it to the vet or for walks or let it in the house, allow it to get infestred with fleas, ticks, heartworms and simply don’t know what the heck they’re doing. They need to learn a lot more before thay should be considered responsible pet owners!

The defendant, Maricela Martinez-Sanchez, did not attend the proceedings. The defense called Marble Falls Police Captain Glen Hanson to the stand to recount the incident in which Mimi was allegedly dragged behind a vehicle at between 5-8 miles per hour.
After hearing the account, Marble Falls Municipal Judge Cheryl Pounds granted custody of Mimi to the city’s Animal Control Facility, and did not reinstate custody to Sanchez.
“(Mimi) is doing 100 percent better. She’s been very hyperactive,” said Jacey Ferguson, an animal control officer for the Marble Falls PD following the hearing. “We already have around 20 people interested in adopting her, but we will most likely give her to one of our dispatchers.”
It has yet to be seen whether Sanchez will be found guilty of a felony charge of cruelty to non-livestock animals and torture.
Marble Falls police said Maricela Sanchez, 27, has been charged with one count of cruelty to non-livestock animals, a state jail felony with a maximum penalty of two years. She has been released from the Burnet County Jail after posting bail of $5,000.

says:At 10 miles an hour even a human could not keep up with this. Long distant and Marathon runners are lucky to get in 10 miles an hour. If the woman gets the dog back then there is something wrong with the system. The fact that there is a communication barrier between police and the woman tells me that maybe she is not from the US and needs to be sent back to where she came from. We don’t treat our animals that way here in the US. The poor dog could not have been on his feet for a few moments before falling and being drug. I can’t even imagine the pain the dog suffered during this incident. The sad part is once he sees his owner he will jump into her arms like the whole thing never happened. Dogs are so forgiving of the cruelty placed upon them. Please do not put this poor animal back in the hands of an idiot…
