Arizona Dog Used for Target Practice

This happened this past January in Phoenix, Arizona, and I just now heard about it while browsing and looking for something else. Talk about disgusting!

A stray miniature pinscher who has been named Andre, was found tied up in a bag and left for dead in a dumpster. He had been shot several times with a BB gun, with several BB’s lodged under his skin. He had also been shot in the eyes, which were hanging loose from their sockets.

Even though he was severely emaciated and near death, rescuers got to him in time. Dr Deborah Wilson, a veterinarian that works with Circle L Ranch Rescue had to give him a blood transfusion to save him. Andre was also found to have diabetes.

Andre recovered enough to be put in foster care in Sedona, Arizona, a hundred miles or so away from the gruesome crime. According to an article from RadarOnline.com:

“He must have been in so much pain, his eyes were hanging out of his head,” said Susie Hopkins, who rescued the poor pup and took him from where he was abandoned in Phoenix to Sedona, Arizona. “He’s been so neglected and abused.”

According to Ms Hopkins, Andre has adjusted well and is starting to enjoy being “just a pet”. He takes insulin, and has to be fed every 2 hours as part of his recovery. He also spends a lot of time sleeping, as we can all well imagine.

PETA and the Animal Guardian Network have offered rewards totalling $2,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator(s). If you should have any information, contact the Phoenix Police.

It never ceases to astound me how cruel people can be to dogs, when all they want is a little TLC, and they return it dozens of times over.
