A Des Plaines man is sentenced to 30 months in jail and is barred from owning another dog for at least 20 years after he admitted to punching and beating his small dog.
The Chicago Tribune reported that James Robert Wesolaski, a 51-year old Des Plaines resident, pinned his small dog to the ground outside of his home and punched the dog several times as hard as he could. A passerby saw the incident and called police to the scene.
When they arrived, police found the Lhasa Apso named Teddy with swollen, bleeding eyes and broken capilaries, indicating that the poor dog had been choked. Wesolaski told officers that he was “having a bad day,” and beat his dog for running off.
Judge Lauren Edidin told Wesolaski that his 20-year ban on having a pet is “a very serious part of this agreement.” The judge also advised Wesolaski to get anger management counseling and treatment for alcohol abuse.
Teddy has now made a full recovery and is enjoying a better life in a new home along with two other dogs removed from Wesolaski’s care (or lack thereof).
We report on cases of animal abuse every week, and are normally appalled at the lack of punishment for animal abusers. It’s a nice change to see a judge take a strong stand when sentencing this man. At 51-years old, we’re hoping his 20 year ban from dog ownership means Wesolaski will never own another dog again. It’s a big step in the right direction when compared to the 3 year ban on dog ownership given to Michael Vick.
What are your thoughts? Do you think his sentence was harsh enough? Too harsh?
I could only commend the passer-by for having the restraint to call the police. If it was me who was just passing by watching the incident, well, I’d be the one behind bars and Mr. Wesolaski would be six feet under.
OMG…THAT BREAKS MY HEART ;( I FEEL SO BAD ;( 4 THAT INNOCENT ADORABLE DOGGY…& 4 THAT PIECE OF SHIT…MOTHER~FUCKER…I PRAY…THAT HE GETS…BUTT~FUCKED…& HE BLEEDS 2 DEATH
I hope this scumbag dies before the 20 year period. He doesn’t deserve to walk this earth.
Ohhhh good when I have a bad day I would really love to come to your house, you piece of shit. You are a no good low life bastard.
Can’t begin to imagine why the dog would run off! Takes a REAL man to beat and berate another living thing. Hope he’s a real man in jail and gets his.
I don’t think just 30 months is enough! Am glad thoughthat he dime and bravo to people who called the police to the scene! Am thrilled the little pooch is recovered! I guess that man has a lot of bad days ahead of him! Serves him right asshole!
Again, I can never understand how somone could be so low as to take a tempertandrum out on an innocent animals! Seems like it’s in the media more and more these days. They stiffer punshiment & higher fines & jail time starting now!
I think the sentence wasn’t long enough and like someone else said, what if he has a bad day with his or someone elses child? He’ll do the same thing to a person as he did to that poor dog. He should have gotten a lot more jail time and banned from ever owning ANY animals for life!!!
If michael Vick were a plummer, and not a football player, he too would probably get a stiffer sentence. He did 20 times more abuse to many dogs and should have recieved a much stiffer sentence. These people are scary!!!! The man who beat his little dog might beat his little child if he had a bad day!!
This so touches my heart as I have a 6 1/2 year old Lhasa-maybe somebody should be and choke the former owner after having a bad day-he should be banned from never owning a dog again-
The sentence was not too harsh. 2 1/2 years? OK. And this man should NEVER own any pet again! Let’s hear it for him having LOTS MORE “bad days”.
He should never never be able to own another dog, he’s a sick dude.
It’s about time….Justice for the innocent furbabies at last!!!
NOW, If we could get a judge to rule that Michael Vick can’t own another dog! That would be SOMETHING!
