A stray dog on a serious mission—to get hold of a coveted purple unicorn stuffed animal—attempted to steal the adorable stuffie five times before Dollar General employees locked the door and asked Animal Control to come get the law-breaking pup.

A lost or stray dog was taken into custody Sunday after he repeatedly “broke into” a North Carolina Dollar General store, attempting each time to leave with a $10 stuffed purple unicorn toy.

“The store called and said they had a stray dog in the parking lot that kept coming into the store,” Duplin County Animal Services Department Head Joe Newburn told McClatchy News. “He’d walk in, go to that unicorn and try to get it. He did it four or five times before they locked the door and called us to come get him. Maybe he had a stuffed animal like that in his original home. I don’t know, but he wanted that purple unicorn bad.”

Animal Services sent Officer Samantha Lane, an 8-year veteran of the department. When Lane arrived, the 1-year old dog was still in the parking lot, perhaps waiting for another opportunity to go inside and get the toy. So, the officer went inside, bought the purple unicorn. When she tossed it into the front seat of her truck, the dog happily followed.

The shelter shared the news on Facebook, saying “This is what happens when you break into the dollar general consistently to steal the purple unicorn that you layed claim to but then get animal control called to lock you up for your B & E and larceny but the officer purchases your item for you and brings it in with you.”

The dog, which the shelter is calling “Sisu,” was held on a 5-day stray hold before becoming available for adoption. The shelter says he’s well-behaved, knows several commands, and is great with people, but can be “sassy” with other dogs.

Shortly after, Sisu and his unicorn found their furr-ever home, as posted by Duplin County Animal Services on Facebook.
