A dog walker in her twenties was attacked and mauled to death while out walking a group of dogs. Another woman required medical treatment from dog bites.

The London-born 28-year-old victim was attacked in Caterham just before 14:45 GMT on January 12. After receiving care for dog bites, the second woman was later released from the hospital.

According to the police, eight dogs were taken away from the scene by cops, and their owners had been located and were being kept updated on the investigations. Police stated that they had no reason to assume the dogs belonged to prohibited breeds and that the second woman had no connection to the deceased woman.

The woman who was attacked by the dog has not been identified, however, Surrey Police have contacted her nearest of kin.

As of January 13, no arrests have been made.

Ch Insp Alan Sproston said, “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who sadly died. This incident will be concerning to the local community and I would like to reassure them that we believe all dogs have been accounted for and are in police custody. Our investigation to establish the circumstances of the incident remains ongoing and we would ask the community not to speculate.”

Tandridge District Council leader Catherine Sayer said: “It’s just a terrible, tragic incident. Obviously, our thoughts are with the family of the young woman who died and we very much hope for a quick recovery for the woman who was injured.”
