The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for the tragic torture and death of a dog in Elkhart, Indiana on July 5th.
Last Friday, someone reportedly threw a lit firework to a 1-year old Pit Bull. The dog picked up the explosive in her mouth, and then it detonated, severely injuring the young dog. Her face was so badly disfigured that the dog had to be euthanized.
“This defenseless puppy suffered a terrifying and painful death, and there is absolutely no excuse for such a depraved act of cruelty,” said Erin Huang, the HSUS Indiana state director. “We hope that this reward will bring forward anyone with information about this heinous crime.”
Elkhart Police are investigating the incident, which happened on the 1200 block of South Main Street. They have not yet identified the dog’s owner and have no suspects at this time.
Someone, somewhere, knows what happened to this poor dog and who was involved. Please share this story far and wide to bring justice to this innocent Pit Bull.
Witnesses, or anyone with information about this case, should contact the Elkhart Police Department at (574) 295-7070 or visiting their website here.
It’s also important to note that nearly 25% of all animal abuse cases involve pit bulls and other bully-breeds. Education, advocacy, and awareness of these breeds and the unjust negative portrayal of them are necessary to end this violence. If ever given the opportunity to set someone straight about pit bulls, please take it.
