United Pet Group, a division of Spectrum Brands, Inc. is voluntarily expanding its recall of multiple brands of packages of rawhide dog chew products to include their retail partners’ private label brands. The recall now included 16 different brands of rawhide chews and treats for dogs.

RECALL ALERT: Phenobarbital Pet Seizure Medication Recalled Due to Serious Labeling Error
Certain bottles of the anti-convulsant, anti-seizure medication, Phenobarbital, manufactured by C.O. Truxton, Inc., are being recalled after bottles containing 30mg tablets were mislabeled as 15mg, posing a serious risk of overdose to cats and dogs taking the prescribed medication.

Party Animal, Inc. of West Hollywood, California has voluntarily recalled two lots of their Cocolicious canned dog food following testing that revealed the presence of the euthanasia drug, pentobarbital.

FDA Warning: Dogs Eating Certain Food, Treats Made with Beef at Risk for Hyperthyroidism
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is advising pet owners and caretakers, veterinarians, and the pet food industry to be aware that pet food and treats made with livestock gullets (meat from the throat region) have the potential to contain thyroid tissue and thyroid hormones. Pets that eat food or treats containing thyroid hormones may develop hyperthyroidism, a disease that is rare in dogs and usually triggered by thyroid cancer.

On February 27, 2017, the FDA became aware that Evanger’s Dog and Cat Food was notifying its distributors and retailers of a new recall for lots of Evanger’s Braised Beef Chunks with Gravy as well as expanding the previous recall for additional lots of Evanger’s canned Hunk of Beef and Against the Grain’s Grain Free Pulled Beef with Gravy.

Evanger’s Dog & Cat Food of Wheeling, IL is voluntarily recalling specific lots of its Hunk of Beef product because of a potential contaminant Pentobarbital, which was detected in Hunk of Beef Au Jus. Pentobarbital can affect animals that ingest it, and possibly cause side effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, excitement, loss of balance, or nausea, or in extreme cases, possibly death.

Blue Ridge Beef is voluntarily recalling one (1) of its frozen products due to their potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Listeria can affect animals eating the product. There is a risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surface exposed to these products.
