When a Pennsylvania mom decided to adopt a rescue dog, one pup in particular caught her eye. An 11-year old Pomeranian/Poodle mix that, it would later turn out, was the same dog she’d loved and been forced to give up as a child.

Woman Adopts Childhood Pet

Nicole Grimes was 10-years old when her grandmother gifted her a sweet, energetic Pomeranian/Poodle mix wearing a pink bow. She named the pup Chloe Bear and the two quickly became best friends.

A few years later, when Nicole was 14, her father started a new job working from home. The job required him to be on the phone throughout the day. Because Chloe was so energetic and “yappy,” Grimes said she was forced to give up the dog she loved so much.

“I remember my dad picked me up from school when I was 14 with the dog in the back seat. I knew we had to give her away,” she told BBC.

Fast forward 7 years to earlier just this week. One of Grimes’ friends posted to Facebook that she was helping to find a home for an 11-year old dog.

“It looked very similar to my puppy when I was little,” Grimes said. “So, on a whim, I said, ‘I’ll take her.’”

When she went to meet her ‘new’ family member face-to-face, Nicole had a feeling she already knew the dog. When they introduced her as “Chloe,” she was almost certain it was her childhood puppy all grown up.

“When she was dropped off she came running up to me and was licking my face. Then I knew in my heart that she had to be the same dog.”

While Nicole simply knew it was the same dog, her husband wasn’t so sure. But, the dog’s microchip confirmed what Nicole knew from the moment they were reunited – it was indeed the childhood pet she’d been forced to give up 7 years ago.

Today, Chloe is loving life in her new home, with her old family. And, while she’s older, smaller, and is missing her teeth now, Nicole says she still loves to run around and play.

And, she’s bonding with a new member of the Grimes family, Nicole’s 4-month old daughter, Violet. “They love to play with each other. Chloe is very gentle with Violet and it warms my heart to see them together.”

Nicole’s grandmother passed away a few years ago, but Nicole says reuniting with the dog her grandmother had given her so many years ago is helping her deal with the loss.

Amazing!
